Gardening
Our gardening service is for clients who would like help maintaining their garden beds and plantings on a regular basis. We can schedule visits weekly, bi-weekly or once every 4 weeks.
General Grounds Maintenance
During each visit we will note and report any symptoms of inadequate or excessive irrigation, drainage problems, maintenance issues, or necessary actions that may be needed to preserve the good health and appearance of your site.

Landscape Plant Maintenance (Trees, Shrubs, vines, Ground Covers, Perennials)
All-season Maintenance:
We will perform the following tasks on each visit during the regular growing season:

- Remove dead vegetation from bulbs when flowering is past
- Remove/prune damaged vegetation
- Remove diseased plants if necessary
- Dead-head perennials (remove spent flowers and foliage)
Mulching:
All mulched areas shall be replenished with compost, cedar, cypress, hemlock or natural bark as needed to maintain a depth of two (2) inches. Mulch will not be placed against trunks or stems of woody plants. All curb, roadway, driveway, walk and bed line edges will be trenched to help contain the mulch. The mulch will be raked as needed to keep it looking fresh.

Trees and shrubs will be pruned at appropriate times and frequency according to horticultural best practices with regard to plant species, growth habit, culture, time of year and site. Pruning will be done to correct faulty growing conditions including removal of dead, damaged and diseased material, suckers, water sprouts and crossing branches and to prevent future problems (e.g. narrow crotches). Pruning will also be done as necessary to stimulate or redirect new growth and ensure natural growth, shape, fullness, and bloom. If additional pruning serivces are needed we will discuss options with the client to include engagement of a licensed arborist.

Pest Control (Includes Weeding)
We will inspect on and around hardscapes, lawn areas, perennials, ground covers, shrubs, vines, and trees each visit for indications of pest problems including insects, disease and weeds. We will advise the client or representative of any such problems identified. Mechanical (e.g. hand pulling) means will be used whenever possible to remove weeds and insects. Upon confirmation of a specific problem requiring treatment, we will discuss options with the client to include engagement of a licensed pesticide applicator if required.
Winterizing
When fall weather is appropriate we will perform fall maintenance tasks including bed and yard clean-up and shrub and tree protection.
- Plant spring bulbs
- Mulch Grandiflora and Tea Roses heavily, to 1.5 feet around stems, after the ground has frozen
- Mulch around other sensitive plants
- Wrap young fruit trees if necessary to protect them from winter injury
- Wrap shrubs as trees as necessary to protect them from damage from wildlife
Garden Projects
We will design, plan and execute garden related projects as discussed and agreed with the client. Projects may include: establishing new garden beds, sourcing plant material, planting and transplanting, mulching, installing garden structures, fertilizing, maintaining tools and coordinating with other contractors (e.g. an arborist).
